NICRA Is Looking for a New Executive Director

The National Ice Cream Retailers Association is a nonprofit organization that is currently seeking a knowledgeable and experienced frozen dessert industry leader to develop and grow the organization. This position will provide the overall management and leadership of the organization. This position will be responsible for executing the strategic plans and policies established by the Board of Directors. In addition, develop and implement learning opportunities to member businesses and individuals in the frozen dessert retail business as directed by the Board of Directors. Lastly, promote and grow the NICRA brand and the ice cream industry through all types of media as well as NICRA’s annual convention.


  • Perform general administrative functions and financial record keeping
  • Maintain appropriate financial records for all pertinent data, abiding by generally accepted accounting practices and principles
  • Prepare and monitor budget information
  • Organize and maintain NICRA’s membership, this includes seeking new members, while retaining current members with assistance from the Membership Committee
  • Partner with the Executive Committee to develop a budget and plan for the annual convention
  • Responsible to contact hotels in the pre-designated city where the annual convention is being held
  • Conduct on-site inspections of the facility to be used for the annual convention
  • Maintain and execute all planning and program offerings for the annual convention
  • Accountable for all publications, networking, and advertising for NICRA
  • Develop and implement all continuing education programs at the direction of the NICRA Board of Directors


  • High level of frozen dessert industry experience
  • Strong understanding of corporate finance and performance management principles
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate with retail and wholesale business owners and operators through a variety of platforms
  • Creditable presentation and negotiation skills
  • Experience with print, radio, television, and multi-media entities to identify and execute on promotional opportunities
  • Proven experience in social media platforms and initiatives including Facebook, Instagram, and all up to date platforms
  • Experience in trade show organizations, programming, execution, and promotion
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Google Docs, and Email
  • Proven understanding of web based platforms, including web design and development
  • 5+ years of progressive management experience in the ice cream industry or social impact organization
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Flexible to travel <20% of time

The National Ice Cream Retailers Association (NICRA) is a trade organization whose members are in the retail ice cream and frozen dessert business. The members of NICRA are located all across the United States, Canada and several other countries. They operate hundreds of stores and have estimated annual sales in the millions of dollars. They employ thousands of full-time and part-time employees. Since 1933 NICRA has helped hundreds of ice cream and frozen dessert entrepreneurs get started and prosper.

If you are new to the business and are about to open your first retail establishment, or you are an operator with several stores, you will find many members of NICRA in the same position. A very strong characteristic of the NICRA organization is the free and frank exchange of information among members so that all may improve their operations, increase profits and prosper.

Manufacturers and Suppliers of ice cream, frozen desserts, specialty products, cones, nuts, toppings, flavorings, serving and food preparation equipment are eligible to become associate members of NICRA. These supplier members are an integral part of the NICRA organization. NICRA annually sponsors the Bryce Thomson Scholarship Fund for full-time or part-time employees of Active members. Employees can be nominated for the scholarship by their employer, and nominees should be high school seniors who have applied and have already been accepted at an accredited public or non-profit college or university or current college freshmen, college sophomores or college juniors.
