 COVID-19 INFORMATION

There obviously is much concern from indiviuals and small business owners regarding the current outbreak of COVID-19 in the United States.

As we keep connected to trusted media sources regarding the outbreak, the constant flow of news and information can seem overwhelming. The NICRA office has been in contact with the International Dairy Foods Assoc (IDFA) and the National Restaurant Association (NRA) to obtain reliable industry updates and information.

The following websites have been created to advise business owners in the food and dairy industry of the most accurate and current information available to retailers.

Please continue to refer to these sites as reliable sources of guidance and recommendations.

Your local health department will also be a good source of information, as they will advise on information such as:

  • Whether your restaurant should be closing
  • Whether you should be publishing a statement or modifying your business practices.

FOOD SAFETY IS A TOPIC WE SHOULD ALL BE FAMILIER WITH

The National Ice Cream Retailers Association strongly supports Food Safety Initiatives and is working with numerous government and educational facilities to educate ice cream makers and business owners as to the regulations and methods needed to provide a safe product for their customers.

"While the American food supply is among the safest in the world, the Federal government estimates that there are about 48 million cases of foodborne illness annually—the equivalent of sickening 1 in 6 Americans each year. And each year these illnesses result in an estimated 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths."

NICRA is working with other food safety organizations and university's to develop an industry standard and an online / live training program that caters to all ice cream makers, large and small.
